Today several volunteers spent a few hours with the state ornithologist, Drew Vitz, and his colleague Josh, checking out six successful kestrel nesting boxes. We managed to catch five females, who were weighed, measured and give a leg band. Four of them got transmitters, which will help in tracking their migration movements. In the coming weeks we might see them get detected by the Motus tracking station at Mandell Hill. Go to https://motus.org/data/receiverDeploymentDetections?q=&id=8764&f=1&n=100&o=0a1a2a3a4a5a if you want to see the list of species detected since the station was installed last summer.
