Winter Wildlife Tracking

Everyone was bundled up as the the wind blew and we wandered along the edge of Wendemuth Meadow’s wet meadow, up the steep hill and along the boundary wall in the swale. We were on the look out for wildlife tracks. The snow conditions weren’t the greatest, but we still found tracks left by creatures out looking for food or traveling through.

The coyote and deer tracks were old. The snow balls left over from the morning’s snow squall filled their tracks.

Down in the swale under the trees was a fresh porcupine track. The mink had been hunting along the stone wall, leaving lots of tracks going back and forth searching for mice or chipmunks.

After an hour we were cold but satisfied to see a few tracks. Mostly to just be outside together going for a walk at Wendemuth.
