Halley and Curt Stillman shared useful tips and pointers on how to improve farm marketing based on their 10+ years of running Still Life Farm, on Petersham Road in Hardwick. Over 25 farmers and consumers attended the talk, held at the Hardwick Farmers Co-op Exchange last night.
Some of the important take home messages include:
- Find a farm mentor. Farmers want other farmers to succeed, so ask for help and be willing to help others too.
- Know your expenses, and include your labor time, to make sure you are running a successful business.
- Passion is important for retail sales, so find a niche product(s) that you enjoy.
- People are interested to learn more, so engage them.
- Pick 2-3 social media platforms and build an audience organically by telling your story. People want to know their farmer.
