The East Quabbin Land Trust encourages visitors to all of its preserves. Please be respectful of the land and other visitors.  EQLT has several policies that guide use of the land, including a Dog Policy, Hunting and Fishing Policy and Recreational Trail Use Policy. We encourage you to go explore Pat’s Sanctuary.

Pat’s Sanctuary is accessed from Hardwick Pond Road in Ware, several hundred feet south of the Hardwick – Ware town line. There is space for several vehicles at the property gate.

To date a one-mile trail is open, rising nearly 500 feet in elevation from the road to the top of the Dougal Range ridge. After passing the gate, continue up the woods road to the first landing, then bear left looking for blue blazes.

Summer 2025 interns installed temporary interpretive signage along the path. When a return loop is built in 2026, additional signage will be added.

Terrain: Plenty of vertical gain, somewhat steep in places. A few rocky sections.

Surface: Bare substrate in forest. All roads dirt.
