We had a wonderful trek around the trails at Moos Brook Preserve, on Brook Road in Hardwick. The sky alternated between bright sunlight and overcast, but that didn’t stop the intrepid hikers from walking the trails. You can really feel the difference in the ice level under hemlocks, where the branches interrupted last night’s rainfall, making the top layer more like small balls of ice rather than a full sheet to slide over.
The only animals we saw included a black-capped chickadee and pileated woodpecker. But other animals had been out searching for food and walking through the snow.
